Historic Britain

Britain's history is one of its biggest and most valuable assets. Not only is it largely responsible for the rich cultural heritage that Britain has to offer, it is also the reason that thousands upon thousands of tourists from overseas are attracted to visit our small but charming island every year. From the sights and sounds of London to the eerie tranquillity of Stonehenge, there is no denying that Britain has a great deal to offer in terms of historical sites. But how to see them all?

For domestic tourists, there are many different ways to explore Britain's long and diverse heritage. Here are a few of our particular favourites:

1. Take a caravan holiday. Many of Britain's most famous spots of historical interest are well served by both caravan resorts and camp sites in order to attract a maximum number of visitors. Those interested in purchasing their own caravan may benefit from looking up caravans for sale through the Park Resorts website.

2. Become a member of the National Trust, English Heritage or another such organisation. This will reduce the amount you pay on entrance fees to many of Britain's best loved historical sights. There are a range of different tarifs available for those interested applying for membership, including reductions for young people and those who are retired as well as special family tickets for those travelling with children. Your membership is sure to encourage you to make the most of the historical sights around you.

3. If you are passionate about the conservation of Britain's history, then you might like to look into going on a heritage preservation volunteering holiday. There are a variety of different schemes and companies in operation to get willing volunteers involved in the protection and upkeep of Britain's heritage and this can be a highly rewarding way to spend a week or two.

“Oakwood Tours’ customer service rates a perfect 10…..could not have been better. Alex & Bill were both wonderful. We did not feel rushed. We learned a lot. We felt very ‘special’ to have our own tour guide…someone to look out for us & help us see the sites efficiently. The tour sites were wonderful. Nothing can prepare a person for seeing Stonehenge in person. Lacock was lovely, the Abbey so beautiful & peaceful….Wonderful experience."
