Leeds Castle, Dover & Canterbury Cathedral – a sightseeing tour from London to discover the splendour of Kent.
Our tour through the “Garden of England” begins at Leeds Castle, described by Lord Conway as the “loveliest castle in the world”. We then head down to Dover to see the famous “White Cliffs”. Our last stop is the medieval city of Canterbury where we visit the stunning Cathedral, the most important church in the Anglican faith.
Leeds Castle
Set in the middle of a natural lake this is the classic example of a castle protected by a moat. You'll be amazed at the tranquillity of the setting. We'll tour the castle and visit its glorious grounds which include an aviary, a maze and if we're lucky we might see a falconry display.
Dover
Then it's on to Dover famous, and the chalk cliffs made famous by Vera Lynn's wartime song. The cliffs gave Britain the nickname “Albion” which means “white”. As well as visiting the White Cliffs and seeing the English Channel, we'll also have a photo stop at Dover Castle.
Canterbury Cathedral
We then make our way to Canterbury Cathedral. This is not only the most important Anglican church, it is the burial place of Henry IV and Edward The Black Prince, and is most famous as the scene of the gruesome murder of the then Archbishop Thomas Beckett in 1170. Time permitting we'll also explore the lovely narrow streets of Canterbury itself.
As with all Oakwood Tours we will pick you up from your own hotel and return you there at the end of the day. You will not have to share the tour with any other parties and you will have the dedicated attention of your Blue Badge Guide for the whole day.
