  • “We were just as pleased as could be…..To have our own guide who could tell us about the things we were most interested in, to be picked up & dropped off right at our hotel door, to have the itinery tailored to our own pace & interests, to have all admissions taken care of, to enjoy a leisurely lunch – all these things made this tour far superior to a large group tour.”

Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle & Hampton Court Palace – a fascinating days sightseeing tour from London

Taking in two of England's most impressive Royal residences, this tour visits the world-famous Windsor Castle, and then stops at historic Runnymede before ending the day at the magnificent Hampton Court Palace and Gardens. With expert commentary by your own Blue Badge Guide and all entrances included in the price, this is a great tour, particularly if you do not wish to travel too far from London.

Windsor Castle

The largest inhabited castle in the world, Windsor dates back to the 11th Century and the time of William the Conqueror. It has now been a home to the Royal Family for over 900 years and remains an official residence of Queen Elizabeth II.

The tour includes a visit to the State Apartments that are still used for many British State occasions and Royal receptions. We'll also take in the stunning castle grounds and visit St George's Chapel, home of the Order of the Garter and a burial place of kings and queens.

Runnymede

On leaving the castle we'll head to Hampton Court Palace via a very famous water-meadow by the River Thames! Called Runnymede this is the location where the famous Magna Carta was sealed by King John in 1215. Now considered one of the most important documents in the history of democracy. We will also drive past the 1965 British Memorial to the assassinated US President John F. Kennedy.

Hampton Court Palace

Hampton Court PalaceOne of England's most fascinating and impressive Royal palaces, Hampton Court is located approximately 12 miles south-west of Central London, on the banks of the Thames. Originally a 14th Century manor house, Thomas Wolsey, the then Archbishop of York and Chief Minister to King Henry XVIII spent lavishly to turn it into the palace it is today, only to have to hand it over to his King as he fell from favour.

The tour will include the Palace's state apartments which house the majority of the Queens' art collection, the historic Tudor apartments and kitchens. Finally we'll explore the fabulous gardens set in over 60 acres and including the famous Hampton Court maze.

As with all Oakwood Tours we will pick you up from your own hotel and return you there at the end of the day. You will not have to share the tour with any other parties and you will have the dedicated attention of your Blue Badge Guide for the whole day.

“Oakwood Tours’ customer service rates a perfect 10…..could not have been better. Alex & Bill were both wonderful. We did not feel rushed. We learned a lot. We felt very ‘special’ to have our own tour guide…someone to look out for us & help us see the sites efficiently. The tour sites were wonderful. Nothing can prepare a person for seeing Stonehenge in person. Lacock was lovely, the Abbey so beautiful & peaceful….Wonderful experience."
